Beloved reader, I cannot get over the mercy of God. The same holy God who knows every wicked thought and deed we’ve ever committed still loved us enough to send His only begotten Son to die in our place. This is not some vague religious feeling. This is the plain truth of Scripture.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). There it is. Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Grace is God’s unmerited favour toward guilty sinners like us. Faith is the empty hand that simply receives the gift. No church membership, no good deeds, no baptism, no religious ritual can save you.
Cross-reference that with Titus 3:5: “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us.”
The Bible is crystal clear on the problem: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). The wages of that sin is death (Romans 6:23), and without a perfect substitute we are all under the wrath of God.
But God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
So how do you receive this salvation? “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9). Heart belief not mere head knowledge and open confession that Jesus is Lord.
This is the same message the Philippian jailer received: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31). True saving faith always includes repentance a turning from sin unto God. “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38). Jesus Himself said, “Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3).
There is no other way. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Jesus declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).
When a sinner repents and believes, something supernatural happens: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Genuine faith produces fruit (Matthew 7:16-20; Galatians 5:22-23). It rests entirely on the finished work of Calvary: “It is finished” (John 19:30).
Today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2). If the Lord is speaking to your heart right now, call upon Him. Confess your sin. Trust Christ’s blood and resurrection for you personally. He will save you instantly and keep you eternally. “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life” (John 3:36).
