Notes on the Workplace
Doing Great WorkColossians 3:23: “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord,
and not unto men;” Ephesians 6:7: “With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not
to men:” We seek to do Great Work, the best possible work in the best possible way because our work is done ‘as to the Lord’. Proverbs 18:9 “He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him
that is a great waster.” Work hard. Do NOT be slack in your work. Proverbs 16:3 “Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.” Commit everything you do and everything you’re working on to the LORD. ColleaguesEcclesiastes 4:9-10: “Two are better than one; because they have a good
reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow:
but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help
him up.” Working with others gives us a better reward for our labour. Colossians 3:23: “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord,
and not unto men;” Great work is defined by Colossians 3:23 and Ephesians 6:7. And collaboration is a form of work. Look at how the craftsmen of Exodus worked together to build the Tabernacle. 1 Thessalonians 4:11: “And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own
business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;” Focus on your work that you have to do. Mind your own business – don’t get involved in things that don’t concern you. Romans 13:1: “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For
there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.” We must follow what management say without a rebellious spirit. Even if we disagree with them. That is not to say we don’t give counsel. But we must follow what they say. Ephesians 4:31 “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour,
and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:” Do not harbour bad feeling towards colleagues. Do not speak badly of them. Ever. Proverbs 30:10 “Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse
thee, and thou be found guilty.” Be very careful about criticizing your co-worker of something to their manager. © 2025 Luke Appleton |
