Biblical nature of Holy Communion
What was the last worship service the Lord Jesus Christ led before He went to the cross? What was it my friends? It was Holy Communion. The last supper. But what is the nature of Holy Communion? We know for sure it is not as the Romanists say it is. The tranSUBstantiation! For that is a platonic falsehood. What is it then friends? The real presence? Just a ‘memorial'!?
Man loves his traditions. He's so in love with his traditions. He'll dress them up. Dress them up like a barbie doll. He’ll say ‘this is what the Bible says' but really, underneath his supposition is just tradition. But he has not let the Scripture paint the picture.
Where does Holy Communion come from?
This was not an invention of man. This was not a religious tradition. It came directly from the Lord Jesus Christ. Not just was it established by Him but it was commanded by Him.
“This do in remembrance of me.” (Luke 22:19)
“This do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.” (1 Corinthians 11:25)
What is Holy Communion?
A Memorial of Christ's Death
It is a memorial of His death for us upon the cross. The Lord Jesus' body was broken for us. His blood was shed for us.
“Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.” (1 Corinthians 11:24)
“This is my body which is given for you.” (Luke 22:19)
Real spiritual communion with Christ
This isnt JUST a symbol. This isnt just a metaphor! Not just a ritual. This is a real communion with the body and blood of Christ! We partake in His body and blood.
“The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?” (1 Corinthians 10:16)
A fruit of our salvation
It is a very real sign of our salvation. It is a very real sign of our life in Him. When we eat the bread and drink the wine we dwell in Him and He in us. Spiritual communion.
“Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day… He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.” (John 6:53-56)
Proclaiming Christ's death until He comes
It is a proclamation! We make His death known to the world!
“For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.” (1 Corinthians 11:26)
Jesus Blood NEVER failed me yet! For this I know, that He loves me so!
